Here’s the thing that I think a lot of people get wrong about body positivity. They think that in order to heal, you have to like every part of yourself. I don’t think that is realistic. I don’t like every person in my extended family but I still love them. Loving and respecting your body whether you like the way it looks or not is the key to finding peace with your body.
Diet culture has told us that loving our bodies means spending all of our time and money trying to make them smaller. We have been gaslit to think that hyper-focusing on our bodies is healthy and normal. It’s not! Our bodies need food, rest, joyful movement and kind self talk. But they don’t need to be changed, picked apart or blamed.
What is one thing you can do this week to show love and respect to your body?
